A Christmas Carol

I designed this annual production of the Musical A Christmas Carol four times (under a few different directors), which allowed me to try new things within the show. The show spans about 50 years in the life of Ebenezer Scrooge, from 1800 to 1845. I worked to differentiate color and silhouette to show the audience these jumps in time. The colors in the show follow an arc, showing Scrooge's emotional relation to the past, present, and future instead of strict realism.  In the number "Link by Link," I used characters of different historical periods to show Scrooge the evil of his ways.

Research

In this show, research was mostly  historical. I started by creating a timeline of when the show took place, and then researched every period. Pictured here is research of the 1840's., along with the pallet used to depict this period; the early 1800s, and the color pallet used; Queen Victoria (who inspired the Ghost of Christmas Past); Father Christmas (who inspired the Ghost of Christmas Present); 19th Century Ballet Dancers (the dancers in "Abundance and Charity"), Inspiration for the Ghost of Christmas Future; and some of the "Evil people throughout history" who inspired the ghosts in "Link by Link" (Elizabeth Bathory, Pandora, King Henry VIII, and Anne Bonny)
