This Theatre for Young Audiences retelling of the Grimm Brothers' "Seven Ravens" follows the journey of a refugee family and their quest for place and reconnection. This piece fluidly used costume layering to allow actors to transition through characters. We also used blacklight makeup to create a magical bioluminescence effect in the final moments of the play.

Research

The research for Seven Ravens started from primary research of migrants and refugee camps. It included children's books, since the show is through the lens of childhood. It also expanded to include magical elements, especially glowing bioluminescence, which impacted the makeup design.
